Big News from Dragonfly Fibers

Proving once again that change is the only constant in life, the time has come for us to move on to the next phase in our lives. We have made the difficult decision to move on from this wonderful yarn business by the end of this year. We had originally planned to close the doors and wind down Dragonfly Fibers completely. However, a few of our fabulous colleagues have expressed interest in the business and we must pause to consider how it might be possible for the Colors of Happiness to continue in someone else’s hands.

We were planning to wait until we had made a decision so we can make a clear announcement.  As sometimes happens, we made a mistake and the news of our closing was announced on the Indie Untangled blog. We are super excited to be sponsoring the annual IU Rhinebeck Trunk Show; do check out our interview.

This news may be sad, but we want you to know that we have loved every minute of this wild ride that is Dragonfly Fibers. Our hearts beat a little faster every time you share your enthusiasm with us at a show, say hi to us on Ravelry, or tell your LYS how happy you are that they stock our yarn. Honestly, this connection is what we will miss the most. Whether you’ve bought our yarn once, or you’ve been with us from the beginning, we have never taken a single sale for granted.

What will this Fall look like at Dragonfly? Please stay tuned for more specifics but we can share our plans to take a farewell tour in grand style. Or perhaps it will be one long retirement party? Either way, we will attend our usual shows with a the full complement of our bases:

  • Shenandoah Valley Fiber Festival (Sep 28-29, Berryville, VA)
  • Rhinebeck (Oct 19-20, Rhinebeck NY)
  • SAFF (Oct 25-27, Fletcher, NC)

Our last event in our current incarnation will be our Holiday Open House on Saturday, December 7th. We hope that many of you can join us for a fun (and yes, bittersweet) send off. Even if we pass our business on to another talented dyer, they will carry a limited amount of colors and yarn bases. And, of course, they will make them their own!

If you can’t join us at a show, don’t worry, we still have lots of yarn. Our inventory will remain available on our website through December. Some yarns will sell out sooner than later, though, so don’t wait!

We have lived and breathed our tag line “The Colors of Happiness.” We hope our yarn has brought has brought you joy!

Much love from Kate, Nancye, and everyone at Team Dragonfly

    1. Oh no! And to think I was so “disciplined” and reined in my yarn purchasing this year at Shenandoah. Where is the location of the Holiday Open House?.

  1. No no no! Please say it isn’t so? Please?? 🥺 Pretty please with sugar on top???
Seriously though, although I’m deeply saddened, and I won’t be able to attend any of the fairs or your farewell party, I still wish you the best of luck in your next endeavor-even if it’s just doing nothing more than doing what’s best for you! Ya gotta do you to get the most out of life. 🌟⭐️💜💜💜⭐️🌟

  2. I am so terribly sad to see this that you all are closing. I still have my Blue Crab yarn which is beautiful. I will try to purchase something soon to help out. Once the new owners get things running, please have them update us and provide a way where we can still get good yarn at reasonable prices such as you all have had.
    Happy Thanksgiving, and Merry Christmas!
